Other companies may say their moss is real or living but it’s simply not true. If you’ve seen a moss wall out and about, it’s most likely preserved moss. Other moss art companies use preserved or dried moss, which are no longer living and processed with toxic chemicals. Most preserved moss is reindeer moss which isn’t even a type of moss or a type of plant – it’s a fungus. Preserved moss has several disadvantages. Preserved moss is low quality and doesn’t have a high aesthetic. Preserved moss will only look good for a week and with time, fades, deteriorates, and needs replacing. Because it is heavily treated with chemicals, preserved moss gives off a strong chemical smell (which is chemicals off-gassing into your air). Preserved moss is a problem.
